Ningdong Huang obtained her B.S. in 2001 and M.S. in 2004 from the Department of Physics at Tsinghua University, P. R. China. After that she started study and research in the US and received my PhD degree in the Department of Applied Physics at Stanford University. Dr. Huang returned to China and launched her scientific career in the University of Science and Technology of China. She is an associate staff scientist (similar rank to Associate Professor in China) at USTC focusing on Synchrotron Radiation (SR) X-ray experiments in particular advanced scattering techniques and their applications in condensed matters.

The main research area of Dr. Huang is physical chemistry of soft matters including water, aqueous solutions and lyotropic liquid crystals. She is specialized in structural characterization of solution systems with SR scattering and spectroscopies, aiming to understand the aggregation and interaction between molecules (as well as between their assemblies) in water. She is an experienced user in many SR facilities all over the world, including SSRL, ALS and APS in the US, SSRF, BSRF and TPS (Taiwan) in China. Dr. Huang has been in charge of several research projects include hydrophobic effects of amphiphilic molecules at nanoscale, the behavior of supramolecular columnar phases, the kinetics and pathway of hierarchical supramolecular assembling in water and 3D nano-crystalline order in supramolecular lyotropic liquid crystals.
